To promote sustainable development education in rural China and rural revitalization through talent cultivation

  • Based on many years of experience in capability building for various rural groups, the training center is set up to facilitate the building of a knowledge base, the sharing of useful resources, and the exchange of ideas and lessons learned in regard to human centered development in rural China.

  • Continued learning for rural adult is still in urgent need in the countryside, but services and resources for capability building in practical and substantive areas are in short supply.

  • We are currently in the process of developing training curriculum and courses targeting specific groups who play key roles in rural social change. Textbooks, lesion plans, trainer’s manuals, and packages of participatory training tools are being designed to make the courses available and accessible to the general public in demand.

  • Curriculum and courses are designed to be scalable, portable, and easily promoted.

  • Our strategy is to first train the trainers at the county level, and encourage the formation of county level local training teams, and let them to complete the training at the grassroots level.

  • Our strategic partners have not been confined to migrant children’s schools, but expanded to include public schools that have significant concentration of migrant children.

  • Courses developed and being developed includes: rural teachers training; training for grassroots leaders for rural development.

  • Course to be developed: training for rural women; training for migrant workers and families.

Special training lessons

  • Rural Leadership: designed for raising consciousness of people-centered sustainable development and enhancing capabilities of leading and managing village public affairs for local development activists, women leaders, and other important rural stakeholders. Content of lesson emphasizes economic cooperation, environmental awareness, gender equality, local culture and local knowledge, welfare of old age and the youth, and rural-urban dialogue and cooperation.

  • Teachers: Rural Teachers Training has been developed and implemented in several counties since 2010. The lessons have focused on student-centered education, classroom participation, respect for rural students and rural knowledge, and gender equality in the school.

  • Volunteers: based on Zigen’s past experience with volunteers, this package of training lessons will be developed for the target audience of young volunteers who intend to engage in rural development activities. Lessons will emphasize values and practical issues, such as field research and development and management of projects.
